This is a great novel to use in ELA class to discuss plot and characterization. However, it is also a great resource to use in a US History class that is discussing the Vietnam war or immigration. Through this semi-autobiographical novel students will be able to connect with Ha and her plight to immigrate to a new nation while loving and missing the nation she is leaving.

Prisoner B-3087 would be a good resource to use in a Global History classroom. This novel which is based on a true story would be a great text to help students understand the horrors of concentrations camps and what it was like to be a Jew living during this time period.
